If you thought that Homer s tales of the Trojan wars were historical events set in the Mediterranean Sea Steven Sora puts forth some compelling evidence that it s just no so Not only do the tales not fit geographically but there is evidence I found it a fascinating read and thoroughly enjoyed it I would have liked and better maps in the book that was disappointing as it certainly would help when he s trying to orient the reader to an Eastern Atlantic OceanIberian Coast setting I would also have liked to see him cite his references better He makes some interesting statements that I would like to know where that came from as I would like to know All in all a worthwhile read if you are interested in Homeric studies

An interesting supposition that Atlantis and Troy were both coastal towns on the Iberian Peninsula The author then proceeds to map out Odysseus voyage in The Odyssey It was an entertaining read but if you are going to put Circe s island in the Orkney Islands and Hades in Iceland a compelling explanation for the wandering rocks would have been that they are icebergs Just my humble opinion
