I enjoyed this new look into WWII as teen girls come together to work the land as farmerettes I really enjoyed this novel as it opened up my world to what some teens did to help the war efforts and I enjoyed the relationships that were built inside these pages Coming from all walks of life and for all different types of reasons these girls signed up to work the fields to help the war effort in 1942 Some arriving in white dresses and others arrive in pants and t shirts some of these girls have no idea what they were walking into From their first day there new adventures and discoveries await them A bond is formed between a group of six of these girls which tighten as the days grow longer and this is the story the novel captures Each of the girls has a story to tell and some of them were vocal than others but by the time the novel is over you know their story and you don t want the season to end and have the girls go their separate ways Romance is in the air as the girls step away from their mother s drawstrings and they are now surrounded by their peers Excitement about a new romance with the boys near the farm or fear of what could evolve from the war and their beaus bring these girls even closer together Its war and it is affecting everyone Their bond is close but yet they re still teens and they feel vulnerable for failure as they want to project a perfect life it s a hard standard to live by Their stories are captivating such honesty and strength they pulled from within and from each other Finding free time they are able to escape their farm life and live leaving me laughing and glad that they had found each other and found friendship in the least likely place 45 starsI received this novel from NetGalley and Second Story Press in exchange for an honest review Little Boy really enjoyed this novel as it opened up my world to what some teens did to help the war efforts and I enjoyed the The Wonder of Birds relationships that were built inside these pages Coming from all walks of life and for all different types of Fair Trade? review The Farmerettes Ó eBook or Kindle ePUB Ries of Helene who sends her wages home to support her single mother; Peggy a flirt with a secret she is desperate to keep; Binxie whose rich family doesn't approve of her; Isabel who pines over her fiance who is off fighting; the mysterious X who of al. I received this book as a part of Goodreads First ReadsI greatly enjoyed reading this book I had never heard of the Farmerettes before and actually was inspired by this to do additional research because I found them so interesting Usually I don t enjoy historical fiction especially around WWII which I find overdone but this was so different I sat and read it almost all the way through in a sitting once I found time to read The characters were a very diverse and well written cast At first I was confused by the constant head hopping switching POVs between the girls and found it distracting this was bad enough for a while to rate the four star review However once I got used to it and began being able to differentiate between the girls I found it much much smoother and easier to understandThe supporting characters were just as diverse and lovable no spoilers but the poetry book and the abandoned farm was my favorite side story Their stories complemented not distracted from the main story and added to the rich story world

summary The Farmerettes

review The Farmerettes Ó eBook or Kindle ePUB L the girls feels most out of place; and Jean whose family farm has been taken over by this group of farmerettes As the Second World War rages across the ocean friendship romance hardship and heartbreak shape their summer and no one will be left unchang. Rounding up from two and a half because even though I had a heck of a time keeping track of all the girls and their stories throughout the book I still confuse Isabel and Binxie by the end I had really grown to love these girls and care about what happened with them I was sad that the summer and thus the book had to end because I want to know what happened to each of the girlsMy only two complaints are that 1 the writing seemed a little too juvenile for me it didn t seem like a teen novel 2 It was really hard to care about X I felt like she wasn t in the book as much as the other girls and though I really liked her story view spoilerI feel like it would have had impact if she was either revealed to be one of the main girls or if she were treated like all the others with backstory and freuent chapters As it was I felt like she was just thrown in to be the token gay character hide spoiler
