I didn t read a lot of the reviews but I read one that was a 2 star and have to admit that I don t agree with it Usually I can agree with some part of most people s reviews but in this case I didn t agree at all However I respect that everyone has their own opinion and that is fine As for recommending a book I will recommend this book to anyone who likes YA books and books about witchesparanormal I thought it was actually very good And interestingly enough the person s who review I didn t agree with mentioned Charmed and I loved that show This book did remind me of it given the reference to Book of Shadows which was what their book was called And the other similarities in that they cannot or should not use their powers for personal gain there are 3 girls who are sisters though in this case not of the same blood and that they have to hide who they are from hunters vs warlockdemons or humans in generalThe differences though are what does make this uniue Calista does not know she is a witch and just thought she was different She could see the future was empathic could move things with her mind and light a fire with her fingers without getting burned A little Charmed meets Practical Magic She instinctively knew to hide her abilities but strangely also felt invisible People did not see her until she moved to California to live with a woman who turns out to be her maternal grandmother Ana tells Calista of her heritage via her mom who died Her dad is a human who knew nothing about his wife being a witch nor about his daughter s giftsCalista attends a school where the kids are pretty normal which is where she meets Sophie and Lily her sisters She also meets Justin the boy who is a hunter but does not know it As with other YA books there are petty girls who don t like her a gorgeous boy who she cannot believes likes her and that pending triangle that I generally really hate in books What is different is that Calista meets Nicolas but he leaves early on in the boook and she rarely sees him except in dreams where she falls in love with him While Justin who is with her nearly daily also falls in love with her and then tries to kill her when he finds out she is a witch Nicolas comes back into her life to save her and that is when she finds out he is witch warlock too Maybe a bit cliche for folks but it was well done in my opinion As such I do recommend the book but if you are not into this genre then it won t be something you want to read
